Topic 4-04-1 – Absence
An absence is defined as non-attendance in a class when school is in session.  Parents/guardians do nt have the right to excuse students from attending school except for legitimate reasons as determined by school policy.  Arriving fifteen (15) minutes or more late to a class may constitute an absence.

Principals and teachers are responsible for monitoring and recording the attendance of all students.  Every absence must be documented in the school's official attendance record (hard copy or electronic).

To receive credit in any course, a student must successfully pass the class and maintain satisfactory attendance.  Students should be aware that arriving fifteen (15) minutes or more late to a class constitutes an absence.

To promote early intervention and student success, the following attendance milestones will apply:

•   3 Absences:  Attendance reminder sent to the student and parent/guardian.
  
•   5 Absences:  Required meeting with the Dean of Students.
  
•   8 Absences:  Required meeting with the Assistant Principal to develop an attendance improvement plan.
  
• 10 Absences:  Credit for the course may be withheld and student and parent(s)/guardian(s) must meet with the Attendance Review Board.
