CIF Athletics Eligibility
All CIF Southern Section eligibility rules apply in all games including practice, inter-school scrimmage, league tournament, and playoff games. In order to participate in interscholastic athletics a student must:
- Be under nineteen years of age. (Article VIII)
- Meet the attendance requirements. (Article IX)
- Be eligible for scholastically (2.00 G.P.A.). (Article X)
- Have met the residence requirements. (Article XI)
- Meet citizenship requirements. (Article XI)
- Not participate in any tryout for a professional or collegiate team. (Article XIII)
- Be an amateur. (Article XVI)
- Not compete or practice with outside teams. (Article XV)
- Have an annual physical examination. (Article XVIII)
Santa Clara High School Eligibility
Students, whether involved in athletics or any other co-curricular activity, must complete an eligibility form and meet the eligibility requirements of Santa Clara High School. The character must be within the appropriate standards. Students whose conduct, attendance, or appearance is not up to standard shall be declared ineligible by the Principal, Moderator, or Athletic Director for the period of time they see fit.
- To participate unconditionally in co-curricular activities, students must earn a grade point average of 2.00 or higher every grading period.
- Students on disciplinary, attendance, or academic probation are considered ineligible.
- The Principal reserves final judgment on all decisions.
- All incoming freshmen are eligible to participate in the athletic program during their first semester at Santa Clara.
Transfer students must first consult with the Athletic Director concerning their eligibility before beginning any conditioning or practice with any team. The Athletic Director will file the appropriate paperwork with the CIF-Southern Section office. The CIF- Southern Section will make the final determination concerning the eligibility of transfer students.
