Parent Service Hours Policy
1. Who Is Required to Complete Service Hours
Each enrolled family is required to complete 40 service hours per school year.
Service hours are the responsibility of the parent(s)/legal guardian(s) of the student.
Hours may be completed by either parent/guardian, unless otherwise approved by the school.
Parishioner service hours do not count toward school service-hour requirements unless the activity has been specifically designated by the school as eligible for both.
2. Who May Perform the Hours
Eligible:
Parents or legal guardians
Other adult family members only with prior approval from the school
Adults specifically authorized by the school to volunteer on behalf of a family
Not eligible:
Students completing their own service hours
Paid employees performing their regular job duties
Parishioners completing parish service
Hours performed for another organization or activity that has not been approved by the school
3. Number of Hours
Each family must complete ___ hours per school year.
Service hours must be completed within the designated school year.
Families are responsible for keeping track of their hours and submitting them according to the school’s procedures.
4. Value of Uncompleted Hours
Example:
If a family is required to complete 20 hours but completes only 15, the remaining 5 hours would be assessed at $100 (5 × $20).
5. Approval of Hours
All service activities must be school-approved to qualify.
The school reserves the right to determine whether an activity qualifies for service-hour credit.
Families should obtain clarification before completing an activity if they are unsure whether it qualifies.
Service hours cannot be transferred from one family to another.
6. Verification
Volunteers must accurately report the date, activity, and number of hours served.
The school may require verification from the supervising staff member or event coordinator.
Falsification or misrepresentation of service hours may result in the hours being rejected.
School service hours are intended to support the operation and programs of St. Gregory the Great School. Therefore, service performed solely for the parish does not fulfill a family’s school service-hour obligation unless the school has specifically designated the activity as eligible for school service credit.
