4.4.1 Serving the Mission of the Church through Catholic Scouting

Jesus has given us the mission to go and make disciples (Mt 28:19).  Catholic scouting is part of youth ministry and enhances the faith formation of young people.  The goals of Catholic scouting are:

  • To help young people become, grow, and live as disciples of Jesus in today's world

  • To integrate young people into the faith community through participation in the Church's life, mission, and work

  • To help young people grow personally and spiritually

The Youth Ministry Division of the Office of Religious Education is the Archdiocesan liaison to Catholic scouting. Chaplains serve the spiritual needs and wellbeing of Catholic scouts. The following national and local organizations provide information and support for Catholic scouting in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles:

Scouts BSA (Boy Scouts of America; some units may also include girls)
Girl Scouts USA and Camp Fire USA
American Heritage Girls
