5.2.11 Employment of Relatives
To avoid an actual conflict of interest or the appearance of a conflict of interest, individuals and those whom they consider to be an immediate family member (e.g., spouse, child, parent, grandparent, sibling, or in-laws) should not be employed by the same archdiocesan entity. If more than one family member works at a location, a conflict of interest may arise when one family member supervises the other, monitors and/or audits the work of the other, or when staff morale is adversely affected by the joint employment. In that event, the location has the right to make a different work assignment. If a different work assignment is not possible, the parties involved shall choose which one will resign.
Unless authorized in writing by the
senior director of human resources of the archdiocese, a person in charge may not hire or supervise his or her own family member. Locations should consult with Human Resources before hiring relatives of employees or accepting them as volunteers.
