5.4.3 Fingerprinting and Background Checks
The Fingerprinting Policies and Guidelines set out in Chapter 9 apply to all staff. Staff are required to complete the fingerprinting process before beginning employment or assignments. Fingerprinting is handled by the Fingerprinting Department of the archdiocese, including scheduling appointments for fingerprinting.
5.4.3.1 Criminal Offender Record Information
In
the archdiocese, only certain persons are designated Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) qualified individuals who receive, process,
store, and act on fingerprint and subsequent arrest records. Access to fingerprint and subsequent arrest records by non-CORI individuals is prohibited.
5.4.3.2 Safe Environment Platform
The Safe Environment Platform (SEP) has been developed by
the archdiocese as a database to enter and confirm clergy, religious,
employee, and volunteer information. Persons engaged in hiring employees must check SEP as part of the applicant reference check process. After hiring, any change in employment status must be updated in the SEP.
