5.11.19 School Staff Handbooks
Schools shall prepare handbooks for all staff that
include a section dedicated to particular policies and procedures that
apply to the staff. The policies and procedures that apply to school
staff may not contradict or override any of the general policies and
procedures that are set forth in this Administrative Handbook.
5.11.19.1 Handbook Supplement for Elementary School Teachers
The
following items should be included in the Handbook for Elementary
Schools in addition to the Staff Handbook for Elementary Schools:
Accreditation
Code of Ethics for Teachers
Description of evaluation process and procedures
Duties of teachers (e.g., substitution, supervision)
Explanation of absence provisions
Field trip policies and procedures
Instructional materials policies
Mission and philosophy statement
Organizational chart
Other pertinent policies currently promulgated by the Department of Catholic Schools
Policy for professional relationships with students (signature required)
Principal's right to amend statement
Professional growth requirements
School discipline policy
Supervision of students policy
Acknowledgment of Receipt
The Handbook for Elementary Schools should contain the following statement for signature:
"I have read and agree to be bound by the principles, policies, and
procedures contained in this handbook."
5.11.19.2 High School Faculty Handbook
The following items must be included in the Faculty Handbook, in addition to what is included in the Staff Handbook:
Accreditation
Duties of teachers (e.g., substitution and supervision)
Evaluative Council
Instructional materials policy (including video policy)
Job descriptions for administrators, department chairs, and school committees
Mission statement
Organizational chart
Policy for professional relationships with students (signature required)
Professional growth requirements including any special requirements
Regulations for lay salary placement
The
Faculty Handbook should contain the following statement for signature:
"I have read and agree to be bound by the principles, policies, and
procedures contained in this handbook."
