5.11.6 Interviewing Teachers Under Contract Elsewhere

Occasionally principals may wish to hire a teacher for a teaching position while the teacher is under contract at another archdiocesan school. Principals have the professional responsibility to inform the teacher's current school that they are considering extending an offer of employment. High school principals may not interview candidates who are under contract with an archdiocesan high school for the upcoming school year without discussion with the assistant superintendent.​

If a candidate informs the hiring principal that the inquiry for employment should be kept confidential, the hiring principal should accommodate that request. The hiring principal should inform the candidate that before any offer of employment can be finalized, the hiring principal will contact the principal of the other school.

Principals may contact non-archdiocesan schools in this manner only if they have received permission from the applicant.​
