5.11.8 Elementary School Teacher Educational Requirements and Placement
To be employed as a teacher, an applicant must
possess a BA/BS degree from an accredited institution or be enrolled in a
California credential program to be completed in five years. Teachers
with a credential from a state other than California must pass the CBEST
and other professional tests, and must apply for a California
credential and receive the credential within five years. Foreign degrees
must be evaluated by a state-approved agency to determine if the
applicant has the equivalent of a BA/BS degree. A teacher's placement on the Department of Catholic Schools salary pay scale is determined by the educational qualification.
