​​​​​​​​​​​​9.12.3 Directors of Religious Education, Catechetical Leaders, Youth Ministers, Confirmation Coordinators, Elementary School Principals, and High School Principals​​​​​​​​

As individuals and to the extent it is part of their work assignment, directors of religious education, catechetical leaders, youth ministers, confirmation coordinators, elementary school principals, and high school principals must:​​

  1. ​​Be fingerprinted​ by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles

  2. Attend VIRTUS® training (the certificate must be on file at the parish or school office)

  3. Ensure that all employees, staff, and regular volunteers have read, and review on an annual basis, the Archdiocese of Los Angeles Guidelines for Adults Interacting with Minors a​​t Parish or Parish School Activities or Events and sign the acknowledgment of receipt that is included (the signed acknowledgment of receipt must be on file at the location)​

  4. Sign the Child Abuse Acknowledgment Form​ (the signed acknowledgment form must be on file at the location)

  5. ​Ensure that outside vendors are fingerprinted​

  6. Ensure that all employees, staff, and volunteers with regular contact with minors are fingerprinted by the archdiocese and listed on the Volunteer/Pe​​rsonnel Information Network​ (VPIN)

  7. Ensure that all employees, staff, and regular volunteers have attended VIRTUS® training​ (the certificate must be on file at the location and listed on VPIN)​

  8. Ensure that all children and youth have received child and yo​uth sexual abuse prevention training​ annually; see the Archdioce​se of Los Angeles "Em​powering God's Children and Young People Safety Program.​"​​​

  9. Review the child abuse reporting procedures document Archdiocesan Policy and Procedures for Rep​orting Allegations of Sexual Abuse of Minors to Public Authorities with staff and have them sign the Child Abuse Acknowledgment Form​ annually (the signed acknowledgment form must be on file at the location)

  10. Distribute and display in the main office of the location the pamphlet Working Together to Prevent Child ​Sexual Abuse: Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Programs, Policies & Resources which is available on the Safeguard the Children​ website

High school principals must also complete and sign the mandated USCCB Sa​fe Environment High School Audit Compliance Report and Signature Page​ (updated annually and due May 15 each year) which is available at Safeguard the Children | LA Catholics​​​.
