6.6.4 Insurance Requirements for Contractors, Vendors, and Service Providers

Before entering into a contract that includes services (building repair, janitorial, landscaping/gardening, security, equipment with installation, etc.), a Certificate of Insurance and an Additional Insured Endorsement must be obtained from the party performing the work.

For schools and parishes the Additional Insured Endorsement must be stated as follows:

"The Roman Catholic Archbishop of Los Angeles, a corporation sole, Archdiocese of Los Angeles Education & Welfare Corporation, a non-profit religious corporation, and (name of parish or school) are named as additional insureds. This insurance will be regarded as primary and no other insurance shall be considered contributory or co-insurance."

Other locations, including St. John's Seminary, the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, and Catholic Charities of Los Angeles Inc., should consult the Office of the Legal Counsel on the appropriate wording for the Additional Insured Endorsement.

Contractors and other service providers, including volunteers, must be appropriately licensed and must provide evidence of General Liability, Automotive Liability, and Workers' Compensation/Employers Liability. The archdiocese sets minimum limits depending on the risk exposure of the activity and the value of the contract. (See, for example, the Carnival/Fiesta Event Agreement in the Carnivals and Fiestas section and the Outside User Agreement and Outside User Agreement for Blood Drive/Flu Shot Clinic/Health Services/Wellness Programs in the Required Documents section.)
