​​​9.12.2 Pastors, Administrators, and Parish Life Directors

​​​​​​​​​​Pastors/administrators and other persons in charge of a parish are responsible for confirming and collaborating with the Safeg​uard the Children Committee and for assuring that principals, directors of religious education, parish catechetical leaders, youth ministers, and confirmation coordinators institute the archdiocesan Safeguard​​​ the Children​ policies.

Pastors/administrators, or the other person in charge of the parish, must:

  1. Be fingerprinted​ by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles

  2. Attend VIRTUS® training​ (the certificate must be on file at the Office of the Vicar for Clergy)

  3. Review the Archdiocesan Policy on Sexual Abuse by Clergy and sign the acknowledgment form (the signed acknowledgment form is retained in the priest's personnel file at the Office of the Vicar for Clergy​)

  4. Review individually and with the parish staff on an annual basis the child abuse reporting procedures document Archdiocesan Policy and Procedures for Reporting Allegations of Sexual Abuse of Minors to Public Authorities​

  5. Review individually and with the parish staff on an annual basis the Archdiocese of Los Angeles Guidelines for A​dults Interacting with Minors at Parish or Parish School Activities or Events and sign the acknowledgment of receipt that is included (the acknowledgment of receipt must be on file at the parish office)

  6. Establish a Safeguard the Children Committee that meets on a regular basis

  7. Strictly follow the policies of the Office of the Vicar for Clergy​ on the issuance of visiting, ​guest, short-term, and long-term fac​ulties

  8. Complete and sign the USCCB Safe Environment High School Audit Compliance Report and Signature Page​ (updated annually and due M​ay 15 each year), which is found in Safe Environment

  9. Schedule a date for a pre-audit visit with the Office of Safegu​ard the Children​
