6.1.1 Archdiocesan Financial Services Group
The archdiocesan Financial Services Group (which includes the Office of the Chief Financial Officer, the Accounting Department, the Construction Department, Applied Technology, the Insurance Department, and the Real Estate Department, as well the Operations and Mail/Purchasing departments of the Archdiocesan Catholic Center) oversees financial matters in the archdiocese under the ultimate authority of the archbishop, the moderator of the curia, the archdiocesan Finance Council, and the chief financial officer. It serves as the principal resource for locations on financial matters.
6.1.1.1. Archdiocesan Catholic Center Operations
The operations of the Archdiocesan Catholic Center (ACC) are reflected in annual audited financial statements of the administrative and regional offices, archdiocesan cemeteries, and the Archdiocese of Los Angeles RIsk Management Corporation, all of which are fiscally responsible to the archbishop. The day-to-day operations of the ACC are financed from assessments obtained from the parishes and revenues from cemetery operations, gifts, assets, rents, and royalties.
These revenues are used by the Administrative Office for:
Programs, ministries, and needs of the archdiocese
Coordinated administration of payroll, employee benefit, insurance, and pension plans
The Investment Portfolio
Communications, evangelization, community relations, construction, real estate, legal matters, and financial matters
Support for the archbishop and the Office of the Archbishop
Coordination of the presence of the archdiocese in the California Catholic Conference and the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops
Additionally, the ACC bills locations for:
Some charges are billed monthly; others are billed on
the applicable designated schedules. Other billings are based on
appraised values using actuarial industry standards. The ACC also
distributes property tax bills to the locations for direct payment to the taxing authorities.
